Minyanland is a kid world with a real financial twist!
Minyanland
MinyanLand is a fun, safe virtual community designed to engage kids and families in games and interactions that are entertaining and educational with a decidedly financial twist.
A great idea for these financially trying times
We can all improve our fiscal savvy, right? Well this virtual world gets kids started on money management at a very young age through ‘infotainment’ to highlight the need for better financial understanding.
Money is really ‘kids’ stuff’
Best for kids in grades 3 to 5, (ages 8 to 10) there’s a whole virtual world of money smarts tucked into this site. Kids learn about financial responsibility while playing games, investing virtual cash, and maintaining virtual condos. There’s animated “critter” avatars to create including such favorites as Hoofy the Bull, Daisy the Cow, and Snapper the Turtle. There’s a Minyanland Mall filled with virtual accessories to shop for with friends. And when all that calls for a break, there are educational and entertaining videos to watch at the Main Street Theatre.
It’s all about kids and their very own economy…
The economic system of Minyanland mimics the real-life pricing of general good and services. As kids engage with the activities in the virtual world, everything they do affects the overall Minyanland economy…just like in the real world. And to keep their virtual economy stable, kids must stay healthy and fit by eating properly on a regular basis. And there’s even lessons on ‘giving back’ with incentives offered for charitable giving–virtually!
Stuff for moms to know
Minyanland is the result of the National Council on Economic Education, financial infotainment company Minyanville, and family site network Kaboose, coming together to try and educate kids about the importance of financial responsibility and thrifty spending.
Distribution deals are in place with the AOL kids site KOL.com and partnerships with other organizaions include the Childen’s Aid Society in New York.
Lots of parental safeguards and controls are available through a fast parent login.
Moms will LOVE this very cool feature
You can assign real life tasks to your kids and when they complete them,
they can earn a virtual allowance!
What does it cost?
It’s free. It’s educational. And to keep it that way there will be some kid-friendly ads appearing from time to time.
How many ‘Clicks’ does this world get?
We love this site and give it a whopping 10 Clicks! What do you think? Send your views to OneClickMoms.
